Area ex Bassetti

 Caputo Partnership / Vimercate, Italy

The master plan has been designed both as a new city entrance and as a new urban area created by residential buildings and public services. The project is also related to the street system that surrounds the Vimercate city centre, which completes the ring road both with a new viability and, in the North part of the area, with an new office building. The pre-existing building designed by Mario Botta, with its squared courtyard, has as well been taken in consideration and is well linked to the surrounding new area. The theme of the “structural continuity” is solved using just one roof for the blocks along Via Risorgimento, divided only by the new transversal street, which “cuts” the project into two parts. The idea of creating a new city entrance is underlined by the design of two pools on Via Risorgimento, which with its fountains welcome the visitors to the city. In particular, the entire system of the public areas, so to say the gardens and the squares, are designed using high quality materials such as white and red marble.
