Erbatici Farm House

by Lorenzo Berni - Gaetano Berni / Pavia, Italy

Erbatici farm is a farm complex an important artistic and documentary value both for the landscape and for the history of Lomellina. It is located in an area cultivated with rice, poplar groves, cornfields and plenty of springs, ditches and irrigation cables. From the early eighteenth century and nineteenth century maps depicting this authentic rural area, meadows and grasslands they are always places in relation to the presence of rivers. The project in question involved the old central building of the great court, where they laid the grain, from the second half of the eighteenth century: two new portals in dark iron and glass and then a scale which takes the material and character identify. Today the path that leads to the new multi-purpose room on the first floor of the building. The architectural philosophy which laid down the rules for the logic design  of the new room was that of "restoration", in line with the guidelines of the most recent regulations on the preservation of the rural. The project shows careful attention to detail, originality in the choice of materials and respect for the original character of the context: bands of color at the base of the walls cover the entire perimeter of the room, the floor of red cement magnesium underlines the continuity of space and an old hopper communicates with the new air ducts in a great combination of old and new.
