New Monte Bianco cableway

by Carlo Cillara Rossi /Courmayeur, Italy

New Monte Bianco cableway, “the eighth wonder of the world”

Three stations of technological excellence linked by glazed rotating cabins, support- ing pylons as high as 100 meters and forms designed to withstand intense weather conditions and wind: the new cableway is a true gem of technology and engineering, obtained from the hand excellent designers and the work of prestigious companies of the Made in Italy.

The design is inspired by ice crystals and snow reflections, the new Monte Bianco ca- bleway is a real work of great engineering, which in just 19 minutes traveling permits to climb up to 3,466 meters, in a step from the sky. Already called the eighth wonder of the world, it includes three futuristic stations with breathtaking views, once reserved only to experienced climbers and now ac- cessible to all. The architecture rise to a set of spaces and forms that are born and fit expertly in Alpine backgrounds strongly different, areas that by 1300 meters of Pon- tal d’Entreves (departure), reaching 3500 by Fr. ta Helbronner (destination station), passing through the intermediate Pavillon station located at 2600 meters.

The Pavillon du Mont Fréty, the intermedi- ate station, is the vibrant core of the cable- way. Large windows divided by two diagonal purposes interpenetrating volumes that contain both salt boarding of passengers and offer visitors a vast panoramic context that forms the backdrop to both opposing sides of the Val Veny and Val Ferret, high- lighting the impressive jump share towards Monte Bianco dominating everything.

The large mirrors that interpenetrating vol- umes enclose it a real tourist attraction, complete with spaces specially equipped for the reception and the dining public. Despite the complex disposal on land, the architectural project meets the highest lev- els of hospitality, including shopping areas, a projection room, restaurants, bars and a museum.

The universal point of the project is en- closed in Punta Helbronner, true technolog- ical heart of the mountain station, a master- piece of engineering and design. From here you can reach the historic Rifugio Torino, elevators that travel through the well struc- tural AC high 90 meters which supports the entire station and a pedestrian tunnel of 80 meters.
