Hotel City Lugano

by Guya Camponovo / Lugano, Swiss

New reference for the welcome in city

48 elegant and modern rooms

The hotel city is a construction of six floors, 8 rooms for each floor, a total of 48 rooms, the ground floor with the lobby and the breakfast area and two floors for the garage and technique. The building becomes an important part of the completion of the new structure of the whole. The volume reconstructs the square, a new district road borders one side of the ground, which extends the north road. The regulatory plan provides the use of brick or stone as a facade coating, this constraint has characterized the idea of this project. The work wants to be a monolithic element interrupted by a game of vertical and oblique cuts that give dynamism, opposed movement to the static volume nature  and the chosen material. The access porch is obtained from a hollowed volume, beginning from the corner of the building.

The choice of travertine, with its opaque clear and slightly porous surface, contrasts with the severity of the lines. The rooms decors have been designed trying to optimize spaces with a contemporary architecture and with all the requirements demand today. The lobby with the reception and breakfast room are on the ground floor in an open space that benefits from the several sides of the oblique cuts of the openings. The reception desk and the bar are designed and manufactured in corian that well responds to the soft shapes of hospitality. The simplicity of the white walls and the corian furniture is enlivened by the bright colors of the armchairs designed by Arne Jacobsen and the Kartell lamps.

The reinforced concrete scale is illuminated by a full height wall in uglass glass and the asymmetric geometry confers a game of perspective views from below. Great importance was given to the various construction details to obtain the maximum comforts for the soundproofing level inside the rooms, between room and room and noises coming from the outside. No drilling has been performed between the partition walls, all the installations are done inside the wainscoting. For this reason both in the corridors that in the scale has been placed a Forbo Flotex  carpet designed by the architect Sottssas that confers to the floor  a depth game with its interesting  texture of small concentric and blurred patterns.
